Buckinghamshire captain Conner Haddow returned the remarkable figures of 4-1-9-6 to dismiss Berkshire for their lowest-ever National Counties T20 total at Wokingham.

The slow left-armer’s figures were Buckinghamshire’s best in the competition – no-one had previously taken more than four wickets in an innings – and the second best anywhere, bettered only by Oxfordshire seamer Ollie Currill’s seven for 12 against Cheshire three years ago.

Haddow dismissed the dangerous Rhys Lewis, Ben Salter and Johnny Connell without conceding a run in his first seven balls, returned to snare Charlie Dunnett in a one over second spell then mopped up the resistance by taking the wickets of Toby Greatwood and Samm Daniel in his final over.

Berkshire were shout out for 91 - two fewer than they managed against Buckinghamshire at Falkland two years ago - and were beaten by 42 runs in the opener even though they were chasing only a modest target of 134.

Buckinghamshire owed much to Rhys Nicholas’s 34 for getting them to what proved to be a winning total with Greatwood taking three wickets.

But Berkshire took swift and terrible revenge in the second match of the day, dismissing Buckinghamshire for 67 – their lowest T20 total – and romping to a 133 runs victory, a record margin for the competition, surpassing the 119 runs by which Cheshire beat Oxfordshire at Banbury in 2015.

Johnny Connell’s 40-ball 84 and James Isbell’s half-century took Berkshire to 200 for six before spinners Euan Woods (three for 22) and Rhys Lewis (three for 14) got to work. Only openers Billy Dodds and Josh Lincoln made double figures as Buckinghamshire were bundled out inside 16 overs.

Oxfordshire made their highest T20 total twice in the day against Bedfordshire in the other Group Three double-header at Didcot where honours also finished even.

They made 218 for seven in the opener but the record lasted barely three hours as half-centuries from captain and Sussex opener Harrison Ward and Dylan Driscoll took them to 222 for four in the second match.

Bedfordshire collapsed from 83 for five to 102 all out in the opener giving Oxfordshire victory by 116 runs  - their largest victory by runs margin.

But their T20 campaign ended with defeat in the second game as Jake Tarling became the first Bedfordshire batter to score a T20 century.

Tarling struck 11 sixes and four fours in his 52-ball 108 to see Bedfordshire past 200 for the first time in the competition and to a five wickets win with an over to spare.

Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire remain in the three qualifying places for the Super 12, split only by net run rate, with Wales NC needing two wins against Buckinghamshire at Marlow on July 5 to enter the qualification equation.

Nottinghamshire batter Joe Pocklington enjoyed his return to Lincolnshire as he made two half-centuries in the day against Cambridgeshireat Barton Town in Group Two to help them clinch their place in the Super 12s.

Pocklington, whose exploits in National Counties cricket first attracted Nottinghamshire’s interest, made 67 not out in the first match of the day and shared a second wicket partnership of 89 with his Nottinghamshire team-mate Ben Martindale, who marked his Lincolnshire debut with a half-century.

But Lincolnshire had to settle for a share of the spoils as Cambridgeshire tied the match with Ben Saunders (72) run out by Pocklington as he attempted a second run from the final ball of the match.

In the second match Pocklington (72 not out) and Martindale (30) added 41 for the second wicket and Pranav Pothula then struck a breezy 61 to help Lincolnshire to 178 for five – six runs more than they made in the opener.

Cambridgeshire went down by 15 runs with debutant Travis Holland (50) and Saunders (43) adding 78 for the third wicket but with no-one else reaching 20.

Norfolk captain Sam Arthurton also made two half-centuries in the day to help the holders complete a double over Suffolk at Sprowston and secure top spot in Group Two which also means that they will host one of the four Super 12 events on August 9.

Suffolk were dismissed for an inadequate 116 in the opener after former Derbyshire and Kent off-spinner Hamidullah Qadri had opened the bowling and taken four for seven in his four overs.

At one stage Suffolk were six for four but they were rallied by a fifth wicket partnership of 46 between Kieran Pell (41) and Josh Cantrell (30).

Norfolk responded with an opening stand of 76 between Arthurton (59 not out) and Freddie Fairey (46) and eased to an eight wickets win with more than four overs to spare.

After the tea break Arthurton carried on where he had left off, sharing an opening partnership of 60 with Fairey (34) and going on to 74 which was the centrepiece of Norfolk’s 185 for five.

Cantrell made 48 but Suffolk were restricted to 152 for seven and went down by 33 runs leaving them with work to do – with Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire still in contention for the Super 12s – to stay in the competition.

A brace of half-centuries from Andre Bradford helped Shropshire to secure their place in the Super 12 stage of the competition as they lost the first match against Northumberland at Wellington but won the second by seven wickets.

In the opener Bradford (56 not out) and Ben Roberts (26 not out) shared a competition record eighth wicket partnership of 77 but the damage had already been done as Shropshire had slumped to 49 for seven in pursuit of a target of 138 and were eventually beaten by 11 runs.

John Oswell struck an aggressive half century for Northumberland and again top-scored for them in the second match with 37 but Joe Johnson (40) and Bradford (52 not out) shared a second wicket partnership of 67 as Shropshire reached their target of 122 with nine balls to spare.

Shropshire went top of Group One but have now completed their group programme and could be overtaken by Staffordshire, who face Cumbria in their final double-header at Carlisle on July 7, or Northumberland, who host Cheshire at South Northumberland.

But Cumbria’s Super12 hopes were ended by a six runs defeat by Cheshire in the second match of the day at Nantwich.

Cumbria won the opener by 32 runs with Matt Sempill’s 45 taking them to 171 for six and Louis Backhouse’s three wickets stifling Cheshire’s chase.

But a brilliant maiden century from Pat Ashling – 102 from 53 balls with 11 fours and six sixes – took Cheshire to 196 for seven in the second match.

Cumbria countered with Tom Fraine (97) and former Cheshire batter Ed Wade (46) adding 122 for the second wicket but they came up just short with defeat ending their hopes of further progress in the competition. Cheshire need to beat Northumberland twice at South Northumberland on July 5 to secure a Super 12s place and deny their hosts.

Devon, who sat out this round of matches, Cornwall and Wiltshire have all qualified for the Super 12 from Group Four with Cornwall and Wiltshire doing so by completing doubles over Herefordshire and Dorset respectively.

Cornwall cantered to a seven wickets victory in the opening match at Eastnor where Bryn Evans took his second four wicket haul in only his third match to dismiss Herefordshire for 100. An unbeaten half-century from former Kent batter Alex Blake saw Cornwall home with more than five overs unused.

It was closer in the second match with Cornwall winning by three wickets with four balls to spare thanks to composed cameos from Will MacVicar (37), John Moon (29) and Billy Taylor (19 not out).

There were also two low-scoring contests at Wimborne where Dorset were dismissed for 106 in the opener despite 41 from Ben Rogers with Wiltshire captain Ed Young taking three for nine with his left-arm spin.

Openers Will Naish (31) and Tom Cheater (30) thrashed 45 from the first four overs to set up Wiltshire’s six wickets victory with more than five overs to spare.

In the second match Naish (36) and Cheater (32) again gave Wiltshire a flying start with 41 in the power play overs before Young steered them to a five wickets win with an unbeaten 32.

Rogers again top-scored with 44 in Dorset’s 147 for six but a campaign that began brightly with a double over Herefordshire ended with sixth straight defeat.

Hertfordshire were beaten by five wickets by a youthful Surrey side in a T20 Showcase match at Broxbourne, the latest fixture between the 20 National Counties and 18 first-class counties.

Hertfordshire were handily placed when Archie Harrison (52) and Nafis Shaikh (40) put on 65 for their fourth wicket but they then lost five wickets for 10 runs and finished on 166 for nine.

Surrey paced their chase, led by Josh Blake’s 52 and supporting innings from Alfie Haxton (40) and Alex Dodson (40), and won with 13 balls to spare.
