Berkshire will give a competitive debut to batter Will Hamilton, another product of their successful pathway programme, in the NCCA Cluberly Championship match against Western Division One leaders and defending champions Devon at Blundell’s School starting on Sunday.

Hamilton had his first taste of senior county cricket when he played for Berkshire in two T20 friendlies against Hampshire Second XI at Wormsley earlier this season and now gets his chance in the three-day competition.

He is one of three changes to the side which beat Oxfordshire in Berkshire’s Championship opener three weeks ago with Charlie Dunnett, who was unavailable for that match, and slow left-armer Nilesh Bhandari both returning.

Rhys Lewis will captain Berkshire as Andy Rishton is on holiday this weekend.

Charlie Hunt, another of Berkshire’s talented youngsters, is included in the 12-man squad and will also make his debut if he plays.

Devon go into the match with a 23 points lead over Berkshire following victories over Herefordshire and Oxfordshire but they have played one more match.

They are able to name an unchanged side this weekend which again includes Thorverton seamer George Daldorph who took five second innings wickets against Oxfordshire at Banbury on Tuesday.

Wiltshire, who celebrated their return to the top-flight after a five-year absence with a hefty victory over Herefordshire, have made one change to the side for their match against Oxfordshire at Corsham.  Seamer Chris Aubrey is called up in place of the unavailable Sam Freestone.

Oxfordshire give a debut to seamer Will Rogers, who played against them for Sussex in a Showcase match three years ago. Rogers, who plays his club cricket for Mansfield Hosiery Mills, has trialled with Yorkshire Second XI this season.

Slow left-armer Ben Lucking and contracted Sussex batter Harrison Ward have also been called up for their first Championship appearances of the season.

Northumberland head to Sawston to take on Cambridgeshire as leaders of Eastern Division One following their victory over defending national champions Buckinghamshire on Tuesday.

Seamer Calum Fletcher returns in place of Rory Mustard in Northumberland’s only change with John Oswell taking over from Mustard behind the stumps.

Former Glamorgan batter Tom Cullen will make his first Championship appearance for Cambridgeshire having played in the competition four times for Wiltshire in 2023 and twice for Bedfordshire last year.

There is a Championship debut for seamer Mark Saunders and seasonal debut for experienced all-rounder Callum Guest.

Buckinghamshire return to Chesham, where they beat Staffordshire three weeks ago, for their final home match of the season against Suffolk.

Buckinghamshire have named an unchanged 12-man squad which includes all-rounder Ryan Friend who missed out against Northumberland.

Suffolk, who beat Northumberland in their opener three weeks ago, have recalled leg-spinner Josh Cantrell and seamer Dan Shanks.

Cantrell comes in for former Northamptonshire spinner Freddie Heldreich with Shanks replacing the unavailable Luke Froggatt.

Cumbria will begin life without Michael Slack and Drew Postlethwaite, who both retired from county cricket after they beat Hertfordshire three weeks ago, against Norfolk in the final match of the Sprowston Festival in Eastern Division Two.

Matt Sempill replaces Slack as captain with Sam Bates taking over from Postlethwaite behind the stumps. Experienced batter Calum Rowe will make his Championship debut for Cumbria having made 43 appearances in the competition for Cheshire between 2012 and 2021.

But seamer Louis Backhouse is unavailable this weekend.

Norfolk have named an unchanged side from the one which beat Bedfordshire inside two days earlier in the week which includes Alfie Cooper and Charlie Hood who were both awarded their county caps last Sunday.

Bedfordshire have made four changes for their match against Lincolnshire at Dunstable.

Former Essex seamer Jamal Richards returns along with batter Jamie Dunk, all-rounder Pat Harrington and seamer Oscar Phillips.

Lincolnshire have called up batters Ben Jones and Ben Wright for their first Championship appearances of the season with seamer Tom Shephard, who played in the draw against Norfolk, returning in place of the unavailable Mark Footitt.

Cheshire will enjoy home comforts for the first time since June 21 when they host Shropshire at Nantwich in Western Division Two.

Since they faced Cumbria in a T20 double-header at Nantwich Cheshire have become experienced long-distance travellers with consecutive away matches across the formats in Newcastle, Keswick, Ipswich and Wimborne – where they drew with Dorset in their Championship opener on Tuesday.

Cheshire are expected to recall batter Kevin Carroll to replace the unavailable Sam Perry.

Former Glamorgan off-spinner Tegid Phillips, batters Kurtis Marsh and Cameron Hemp and Usk seamer Ben Jones are all recalled.

Cornwall give a debut to Grampound Road leg-spinner Tom Fox-Dean as one of three changes to the side that beat Shropshire three weeks ago.

Batter Alfie Macdonald and all-rounder Jake Rowe return as the other replacements for Elliot Hooper, Bryn Evans and Ryan Tonkin.

The funeral of Cheshire President and county stalwart Peter Babbage, who died two weeks ago, will take place on August 19.

The service will be held at Bramhall Methodist Church (SK7 1AL) at 2.30pm followed by the wake at Bramhall Cricket Club.
