Rory Mustard will become the third member of his family to play for Northumberland when he makes his debut in the NCCA Cluberly Championship Eastern Division One opener against Suffolk at Bury St Edmunds on Sunday.

Mustard’s elder brother Haydon, who is on Durham’s staff, has already played for Northumberland this season and their father Phil finished his career with the county in 2019 after winning white ball international honours with England, captaining Durham  and playing for Gloucestershire in a 15-year first-class career.

Phil is now on the England and Wales Cricket Board’s National Panel of umpires and officiated in Northumberland’s National Counties T20 double-header at South Northumberland last Sunday.

Rory, 17 , is a product of Northumberland’s youth system and plays his club cricket at Benwell Hill. He is a student at Repton School in Derbyshire and has been playing for Warwickshire Under-18s this season.

He will make his senior county debut along with George Fishwick, a batter from the Hetton Lyons club, and Burnopfield slow left-armer Callum Gaffney.

Suffolk have recalled Copdock & Old Ipswichian all-rounder Luke Froggatt for his first county appearance in three years.

Former Herefordshire seamer Chris Steele will make his seasonal debut and James Bridges his first appearance in the three-day competition. But Josh Cantrell and Dan Shanks are unavailable this weekend.

Buckinghamshire, the defending Eastern Division and national champions, open their campaign against Staffordshire at Chesham and have recruited Middlesex and former England Under-19 international Aaryan Sawant on a dual registration.

Sawant will make his debut on Sunday with Bertie Foreman, whose two-month contract with Kent expires next week, available for his Championship debut.

All-rounder Michael Hill makes his seasonal debut for Staffordshire who also have Derbyshire off-spinner available for his first Championship match in two years.

Dan Lincoln, who joined Staffordshire from Berkshire earlier this year, will face his younger brother Josh who left Berkshire for Buckinghamshire at the same time.

Devon, the Western Division champions and beaten national finalists last season, host Herefordshire at Sidmouth.

Devon have named eight of the side beaten by Buckinghamshire at West Bromwich Dartmouth in Sunday’s side. The exceptions are seamers Matt Jeacock, Craig Penberthy and George Greenway who are replaced by George Daldorph, James Matravers and spin-bowling all-rounder Matt Whalley.

Herefordshire have named four debutants in their side including Malvern College batter Henry Hardinges, the son of former Gloucestershire all-rounder Mark. Worcester Academy batter Joe Porter, Kidderminster leg-spinner Ali Latif and Freddie Ammonds, a product of Herefordshire’s pathway programme, are the other newcomers.

Berkshire host Oxfordshire at the Falkland club in Newbury and have rested opening batter Johnny Connell after a hectic first three months of the season. Connell has been trialling with Essex, Hampshire and Sussex as well as playing all of Berkshire’s white ball matches.

Berkshire are also missing Charlie Dunnett, who has his university graduation this weekend, and spinners Sulaiman Akhtar and Nilesh Bhandari through work commitments.

Leg-spinner Abdullah Iqbal, who is on Hampshire’s Academy, will make his competitive debut having played in the Showcase T20 match against Sussex at Horsham in May.

Finchampstead seamer Lewis Sharp is recalled for his first county appearance in three years.

Oxfordshire are captained Max Mannering on his seasonal debut with slow-left armer Alfie Smethurst – who played for Sussex against them in Monday’s Showcase T20 – Evan Cowley and seamer Sravan Konidena all Championship debutants.

Lincolnshire, who were relegated last season, begin life in Eastern Division Two with a home match against Norfolk at Sleaford.

Former Nottinghamshire, Surrey and Derbyshire left-arm quick Mark Footitt comes in for his seasonal debut and Lincolnshire introduce Seamus Nazir, a leg-spinner from Leeds/Bradford UCCE.

Singapore international Amartya Kaul and Finn Brookes are Championship debutants.

Cumbria have three Championship debutants in their side against Hertfordshire at the Furness club in Barrow as they go in search of a first win in the competition since 2022. Batters Tom Fraine and Ed Wade and slow left-armer Ethan Hardie-Knight have all featured in white ball cricket this season but have yet to experience the three-day competition.

Hertfordshire seamer Sam Davis is set to make his first Championship appearance in eight years and left-arm seamer Alex Gosling, his first of the season. Wicketkeeper/batter Ed Hales is a Championship debutant.

Shropshire captain Charlie Home will make his first appearance of the season in their Western Division Two match against Cornwall at Truro. Home broke a finger in pre-season and only resumed playing for Shifnal two weeks ago.

Slow left-armer Theo Wylie returns from helping Warwickshire to win the Second XI T20 competition on Tuesday and there are Championship debuts for former Glamorgan and Leicestershire seamer Roman Walker and ex-Yorkshire left-arm wrist spinner Sam Wisniewski.

Former Kent and Sussex all-rounder Elliot Hooper is one of three Championship debutants for Cornwall joining spinner Bryn Evans and seamer Ryan Tonkin.

Dorset have Hampshire batter Felix Organ available for their trip to Ebbw Vale to face Wales NC.

Organ , who has not featured in Hampshire’s Vitality Blast campaign, will be making his seasonal debut for Dorset and his first appearance in the Championship for two years.

There is a National Counties debut for Bournemouth batter Alfie Ingram with seamer Ed Bartlett and experienced wicketkeeper/batter Ed Ellis and seamer Ed Bartlett called up for the first time this season.

Wales have included two potential debutants in former Surrey and England Under-19s seamer Luke Griffiths, who is now on the Cardiff UCCE, and Asim Hameed, a fast bowler from the St Fagans club.

Kurtis Marsh is recalled for his first appearance in two years and Tegid Phillips his seasonal debut.
