The retirement of Chris Peploe from National Counties cricket at the end of the 2021 season left a huge hole in Berkshire's side but there are signs that, in Rhodri Lewis, they might have found his successor.
Former Middlesex slow left-armer Peploe took more than 300 wickets across all formats in 13 seasons with Berkshire, his mere presence seeming to intimidate opponents.
Lewis played his early county cricket alongside Peploe which gave him the opportunity to learn from the master before he retired.
Having played his part in helping Berkshire complete a National Counties Championship and Trophy double last year, Lewis has again underlined his value this season.
Lewis has been a key member of Berkshire's White ball side and he showed that he is a capable batter by making a maiden half-century to dig them out of trouble in their Championship opener against Devon.
Lewis, who plays his club cricket for Wargrave, has aspirations to become a professional cricketer.
Having taken part in the second National Counties Player ID Day at Loughborough in March he has been trialling with Glamorgan this season and was part of their side that reached the final of the Second XI T20 competition recently.
He also made 43 to help Cardiff UCCE beat a strong Glamorgan side by three wickets in a three-day friendly in April
