About The NCCA

The 2025 season sees the T20 format reverting to a 4 group format comprising five teams. The top 3 of which will will battle it out for a place in the Super 12s mini-league, which was introduced in 2024. The top 4 performing teams will find themselves through to finals day.

The One Day Trophy will be played in a group format with 5 teams across 4 groups. The top 2 teams across the 4 One Day groups will progress onto a knockout stage with quarter-finals, semi-finals and ultimately, the One Day Final.

The National Counties Championship, which still plays a key part in the playing calendar, involves 2 leagues of 5 teams in each division, with promotion and relegation, for the bottom side in Division 1 and the top team in Division 2. This two-division approach has proven to bring more competition, ensuring the top teams are playing against each other and very few deed rubbers, with the winners of Division 1 in each region playing in the Championship Final.

The structure provides greater opportunities for younger players to get involved and represent their county. New governance recently introduced, requires each county to play 8 players with an average of under 25 and 8 players that are ‘Home Grown’. This places greater focus on the development of talented local cricketers. We have also worked hard to minimise clashes with first-class cricket to enable our talented young NCCA players to seize openings within the first-class county pathway.
