Alex Gosling is a relative newcomer to National Counties cricket but the 19-year-old from Harpenden has already made a big impression.
A left-arm quick bowler with genuine pace, Gosling has helped Hertfordshire reach the semi-finals of this season’s National Counties T20 competition and the quarter-finals of the 50-overs National Counties Trophy.
Gosling has benefited from being able to tap into the experience of former Essex seamer Jack Plom, a new recruit for Hertfordshire this season, and the pair helped to get their Trophy campaign off to a flying start by beating holders Berkshire by 85 runs at Henley in their opening group match.
The new ball partners shared five wickets between them which cleared the way for Hertfordshire captain Ben Waring to take the other five with his left-arm spin.
Gosling followed up by taking a Trophy-best four for 59 to help set up victory over Bedfordshire at Watford in Hertfordshire’s next match.
Gosling has already played Second XI cricket for Essex this season having put himself in the shop window by taking part in the second National Counties Player ID Day at Loughborough in early March.
He also played for Essex Under-18s last season having previously played for Northamptonshire at Under-14s level.
Gosling is currently studying for a degree in cricket coaching at Worcester University and has played for Barnards Green in the Birmingham & District Premier League this season as well as for Harpenden in the Hertfordshire Premier League.
