Dorset has a rich history of players coming through the age groups and into the senior side, as well as on to first class cricket. Scott Currie is the most recent player to have followed this path. Having progressed through Dorset’s age groups to play senior NCCA cricket, he also came onto Hampshire’s radar. Progressing from the academy onto a Rookie contract at the first class county, he made his debuts in both T20 cricket and First Class cricket in the summer of 2020. And this came after he represented England U19’s at their world cup in South Africa earlier in the year. With three wickets – including Test star Zak Crawley on his debut, as well as 38 with the bat, Currie has impressed many this year.
Tom Prest is a 17-year-old right handed batsman and off spin bowler, who has come through the Dorset age groups. The Canford School pupil is a member of the Hampshire Academy, and made his senior Dorset debut in 2019, scoring 121 against Somerset Academy on his first outing. He made his Dorset Championship debut in 2020, again providing some well compiled runs with his 84. He has represented Hampshire at 2ndX1 level, and was recently selected for England Young Lions ‘best v best’ competition. Dorset will be hoping they have another future first class player on their hands.
